The herero Genocide lasted up to 8 years leading from 1904 to 1908 with about 80% of the Herero population annihilated and  about 50% of the Nama population also parishing in the same 8 years that this genocide occurred.

In the following weeks battles are carried out across the central high grounds, to gain control of the situation maharero the leader of the herero people issued rules of engagement witch removes woman and children from the conflict.

But they did hold Concentration Camps where they held men women and children where all of them had to work, they also put the people of Nama in concentration camps because of their involvement in the war.

Altho this was not enough because the germans would continue sneak attacks on herero with modern machine guns and artillery killing them off  but because of a weak flank by the germans the herero people were able to make an escape into the deserts of south africa germany.

They put the Herero and Nama people in to concentration camps and forced them to work and then kill them. 50% of the Nama people and 80% of the Herero people were killed.

Over the next 3 years the Herero prisoners were made to work. The working conditions were terrible that about half of the prisoner died there within the first week. The Nama people ended up in concentration camps also because they had risen up against the germans. The majority were sent to Shark island camp where 80% where killed.

Lieutenant General Lothar von Trotha arrived with more than 14,000 soldiers He was a racist who military solution was to exterminate and annihilate the enemies he had lots of nationalism. In October 1, 1904 he issued the extermination order Vernichtungsbefehl. Later he would kill 5,000 Herero fighters and those who survived would be captured and killed Men, Women, and children were killed.
