Gaia the earth goddess was formed from chaos, which existed before time began. She gave birth to Uranus, the sky, The two of them became the first husband and wife.

They had many children, most of which were monsters, like the Cyclops. Uranus didnt like these monsters and hid them in the Underworld.

This made Gaia angry and she started to plot how to overthrow Uranus.

Gaia gave birth to several gods and goddesses. One of them was Kronos who was strong enough to overthrow Uranus.

Gaia gave him a sickle to Kronos and told him how to kill his father. H hid in his Gaia’s shadow at night and waited for Uranus to come to the earth and killed him in one strike.

Kronos then became the new sky god. He married his sister Rhea and had many children.

It starts off in Ginnungagap, where to the south it was a fiery realm of Muspell , with rivers of poison, lakes of fire, and nothing could grow. To the north, there was a cold and dark realm of Nifheim that had icy fountains that spewed freezing rivers and nothing could grow here too.

After a while Muspell melted Nifheim ice mountains, and giant Yimr emerged who was the first being of Ginnungagap. There was also a cow that emerged and Yimr drank it milk to survive, and the cow licked the salt from the mountain.

Two more people came the god Buri and his goddess wife. They had a son named Bor and he had a son named Odin who came to be the king of all gods.

Ymir came to be cruel and brutal so Odin and the gods decided to kill him. They made the earth out of his body, his blood the sea, fleas the land, bones the mountains, his hair the trees, and using his skill to make the sky holding it up on 4 pillars.

The Yggdrasil was the greatest tree so all and grew at the center of the earth. Odin called it Midgard (the middle land), and on his walk he made 2 people to look after it.

Ymir’s sisters were looking to take revenge on the gods that had killed him. They started carving line into the Yggdrasil tree each of the lines were a human life, they drew tiwsts and turns beginning at someone birth and then ending with their death. They made deep cut to make sure that the human wouldn’t be as powerful as gods. This made the Yggdrasil the tree of life.

Kronos didn't want to be overthrown like he did to his father, so he started eating his children.

Rhea gave birth to Zeus and him him away on the Island of Crete with Gaias help.

Gave Kronos a rock in baby clothes to eat.

Zeus grew quickly to be a powerful god and came back with Gaia’s army and killed Kronos(This was called the Titanomachy

Zeus freed his brothers and sisters from Kronos’ stomach and built the palace of Olympus, where he ruled over the earth.

He married his sister Hera and they had many children, so the world was filled with other gods.

Before Kronos was overthrown he created the first race of men who were made of gold. This was called the Golden Age where men didn’t need to work, and there was no death.

The golden men died when Zeus overthrew Kronos

When Zeus came into power he decided to create a second race of men made of silver. This was the Silver Age

Zeus wanted them to worship the gods but the men had no respect for them.

Zeus hid them in the underworld becuase of their disrespect and the Silver Age ended

Zeus then created a third race of men made of Bronze. They were very aggressive and always fought, this was the Bronze Age

Again Zeus hid them away in the Underworld because of how violent they were.

Zeus finally made a race of heroes, and many myths were written about them. This was called the heroic age, and many great heroes were born.

When a hero died, he was sent to the Blessed Isles in the Underworld.

The heroic age passed then gave way to the Iron Age. The race that lives today are the iron men.

The Men of the Iron Age have to work all their lives and suffer and die. But the iron men ended up being the strongest out of all and survived the Olympian gods.

Importance of nature - In the story nature plays and important role. The tree the Sky Woman planted on the turtles grew and started the foundation of world. This shows that the Natives believed that nature was the center of life and that is why they respected it so much.

Balance - In the story the twins are always competing against each other. If the right handed twin made a deer the left handed twin would make a mountain lion to kill the deer. This shows how important balance was in the Native American culture.

They believed that the Yggdrasil was the center of everything. Which is shown in more Norse stores because it connected all the world.

They valued life with birth and death because it was later named the tree of life.
