Jermaine Lamarr Cole aka J. Cole was born on January 28, 1985 on a military base in Germany. Jermaine was raised with his brother Zach in a trailer park in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His father was an African American soldier and he left his mother a white German postal worker. Cole dropped his mixtape, The Come Up in 2007. He gain enough recognition as a rapper to sign with Jay Z's Roc Nation imprint in 2009. J. Cole also acts as a producer alongside his hip hop career. He taught himself to play the piano and has produced singles for big artist like Kendrick Lamar and Janet Jackson, he also produces most of his own songs as well.

When I found this song I was in a bad spot in my life due to family problems. This song really talked to me and helped me get back on my feet. It also made me see and appreciate what I had instead of worry about what I didn't. The song I will be breaking down is one of my favorite Love Yourz. In this song Cole really puts people's struggle of realizing how blessed they are by focusing on what other people have into perspective. "It's beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success Hear my words or listen to my signal of distress I grew up in the city and know sometimes we had less Compared to some of my niggas down the block, man, we were blessed" In this verse J. Cole starts off explaining there is beauty in struggling because that's the only way anyone can grow. He then goes to saying there's ugliness in the success, meaning there's still struggles even when you do succeed. J. Cole then advises his audience to be thankful for what you have even when you don't have much, because it can always be worse.

Cole has been influenced by many artist of his time and artist before his time. The biggest inspiration to Cole is the New York rapper Nas. In Cole's album "Born Sinner" he made and produced a song called "Let Nas Down" in his earlier career. The song was made in dedication to one of his idols, whom J Cole was compared to early in his career. J Cole was interviews by Kevin Hart in his peacock series "Heart to Hart" . Kevin asked him about his biggest inspiration, Cole said "I got a whole list of people who are the reason why i'm here my north stars that I look up to..." "... obviously, Pac. Jay, Nas, Eminem, Andre 3000, Lil Wayne." And these are obviously the big bullets." Obviously two of Cole's biggest influences Nas and Jay-z played a huge role in his career when Cole got signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation record label, Cole was actually the first artist to be signed to Jay's record label.

Throughout Cole's career his style has changed. early in his career he would wear tighter jeans with sneakers like Jordan 3s, 5s and other shoes. As the years went by and Cole's career began to succeed he went with what was trending at the time. which were basketball jerseys with Jordans. Then he went on a figured out his own style, growing out his dreadlocks and beard. he's iconic for his hair mostly because he was on a hiatus for a little, then he came back and dropped middle child. J Cole's style has changed over the years with the success of his career, and he has become an icon for his fashion sense along with his lyrics.

Cole was Born in Frankfurt, Germany on a military base. I believe Cole was their for only a year of his life. They moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina eventually. They lived at 2014 Forest Hills Drive where J Cole and his family lived for most of their young lives. This address inspired the title of Cole's 2014 album "2014 Forest Hills Drive" that went triple platinum without a feature in the album.
