Glucose is produced from photosynthesis. One of the reactants of photosynthesis is sunlight. Without the sunlight the chloroplast wouldn't be able to produce glucose which is a carbohydrate. The mitochondria uses glucose to create energy that is called ATP. This is metabolism and energy which would affect this characteristic of life. It would also affect reproduction because there would be a lack of energy because there wouldn't be any ATP to help with cell division. This would affect the environment because plants wouldn't be able to reproduce, or have energy for themselves so they would shrivel up and die. There would be a lack of oxygen producing because the plants would die and this would affect the atmosphere and animals wouldn't be able to breathe.

Sunlight is needed for photosynthesis in the Chloroplasts of plants. Photosynthesis produces glucose, a carbohydrate. Photosynthesis is an example of metabolism and using energy. Without sunlight, plants would not be able to make glucose in the Chloroplast and would not be able to efficiently use metabolism to create energy. Without the chloroplasts, the plants would have an unstable homeostasis and could not properly grow and develop. If the plants then die from a lack of sunlight, animals that eat the plants would be affected by a loss of a food source and then the food chain would be messed would be affected by that.

Without sunlight photosynthesis in the chloroplast would not occur and therefore, glucose, a carbohydrate, would not be produced. Carbohydrates (specifically glucose in this case) are necessary for the cells to survive, as they wouldn't have the food. This would affect the characteristic of life "uses energy". Clearly, without the production of energy in the cell, it wouldn't be able to use any. Reproduction, another characteristic of life could also not occur, as energy is needed for that function.
