"Be careful with that, son," he said, holding out his hand for the truck. "Wood made this, and it's the only thing from his childhood Grandma has left--it means the world to her." p. 34
Genie's dad sees Genie playing with a model truck that Wood made, and he says that Genie and Wood are alike in that they like(d) to make models. This memory might be important to the story because we are being introduced to Wood, who is Genie's dad's deceased brother.

This might change things because now we understand why his grandfather wears sunglasses, and now Genie knows. It also may explain why Ernie wears sunglasses all the time.

"How much sugar was in this stuff?" p. 52
Genie is drinking the iced tea his grandfather poured for him, and he is asking himself about the sugar content because it is so sweet. The subject of sugar keeps coming up again and again, putting sugar in the grits at breakfast, there is a lot of sugar in the iced tea, and the fact that Wood liked everything really sweet as the grandfather mentions, so sugar must be significant to the story.

"If they get divorced, is it my fault because I was the one who really wanted Ernie to shoot the gun?" p.321 This question makes me wonder if Genie blames himself for everything that goes wrong, or if he will hold this against himself forever. It makes me wonder this because it implies that he blames himself for the accident, and he has done this previously in the book.

"I've been trying to fix it,"Genie said. "But I just couldn't .I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Sorry for killing Michael Jackson and lying about it. I'm sorry for stealing his dead body from the cage before it was light outside and putting it on a shovel and flinging it into the woods. I'm sorry for setting a trap and trying to catch another barn swallow to sneak into the house and put back in the cage, and I'm sorry for even thinking about calling the new stolen one Michael Jackson too, but then I would've been sorry to the new Michael Jackson for catching him and trapping him in a cage, so I guess I'm not sorry for that part, so...I'm sorry for that too." p.409 This might change things because Genie realizes that it is better to own up to your mistakes then to act like it didn't happen while you try to fix it. If he realizes this, he might own up to his actions more than he does.

"But you know the best way to get over fear?Confront it." p.50
This might effect the character by making convincing him to do what he is scared to do. It would change the story because currently, Genie is scared to do things, and won't do them, but with this advice, he might decide that it is better to do the things than let the fear control you.

"Meanwhile Genie had to run inside, his palm on his eye, and had stepped right into Ma and Dad's crossfire over how she was was feeling neglected." p.13 This memory might be important because it is a large argument between Genie parents, and it may cause him to believe that they will get divorced. Also, he may continue to wonder about this during the story, and the thought of this may distract him from the present, causing something to go wrong.
