Power portrays control over others and who rules, exemplified by the relationship between Ariel and Prospero when Ariel says, "Remember I have done thee worthy service/Told thee no lies/ made no mistakings, served/ Without or grudge or grumblings/ Thou did promise. To bate me a full year," (Shakespeare.2.1.295-300). Prospero responds: "Dost thou forget/ From what a torment I did free thee?" (Shakespeare 2.1.300).

From this scene, we can interpret that even though Ariel is a powerful spirit, being freed by Prospero indebts him to be his servant since Prospero had the power to free him while also having the power of knowledge to remind Ariel that he must repay him.

Act 2

One example is when Sebastian says to Antonio, "Thy case, dear friend/ Shall be my precedent: as thou got’st Milan/ I’ll come by Naples. Draw thy sword. One stroke/ Shall free thee from the tribute which thou payest/ And I the King shall love thee," (2.1.331-336).

Act 3

In the scene where Ariel warns of the royal's upcoming dangers, "Against your peace. Thee of thy son, Alonso/ They have bereft; and do pronounce by me/ Ling’ring perdition, worse than any death," (3.3.93-95).
