Karl Popper argued that Freud's theory is unfalsifiable. This means that there is no way to test whether the theory is valid or not. The unconscious mind cannot be seen or tested as individuals are not aware of it. This means that no scientific and objective studies can be conducted to falsify Freud's ideas about how the unsconscious mind influences behaviour. This is therefore s weakness of the psychodynamic approach.

A strength of the psychodynamic approach is that it had developed a form of therapy, this is a strength because although there may be little evidence for the approach there is still evidence for the therapy working so it is useful in terms of real life application.

Sue and Sue argue that the psychodynamic approach cannot be generalised in all cultures because some mental health issues are not accepted in western cultures. Therefore, Freuds theory lacks cultural validity as it cannot explain behaviour in both collectivist and individualist cultures. Due to the different morals and socially acceptable behaviours present within the different societies.
Therefore, this is a weakness of the Psychodynamic approach🙃🙂
MELINA EINAS RIMSHAH AYESHA

A weakness of Freud theory is that it was controversial at the time he conducted his research, it was considered to be a socially sensitive theory. This illustrates that his theory would not be accepted as what he was a putting fourth was a taboo, this leading people to reject his idea. The controversy of this theory means that it can be argued against. This can be linked to Karl poppers and the idea that if your theory can be sued against it is not the strongest.
