Behavioral Theory states that behavior is shaped by negative and positive reinforcement. Consequences of an action may have more impact on behavior than a positive stimulus. A ticket for driving recklessly may have a better effect on someone than rewarding them for safely driving. Rewards are good and useful, yes, but the consequence to an action will yield greater results and change in behavior.

Cognitive theory has allot to do with our memories and experiences with a person, place or thing. What emotions are associated with such thing. The way we interpret things has a direct effect on our reaction to these things. Positive thoughts create positive feelings, positive feelings create positive behavior witch ultimately creates a positive outcome. The same with negative thoughts and feelings. When we look at a situation from a positive and productive standpoint, cognitive theory suggests that we can increase motivation for a better outcome.

Social theory suggests that we learn from watching and modeling others. We see this best in children. They’re like sponges, soaking up information and regurgitating it. There are four stages to social learning witch are attention, retention, reproduction and motivation. Because we are social beings, relationships between friends and family can provide support, motivation and encouragement.

Humanistic theory is about looking at the uniqueness of a person and suggesting that because we have free will, that will motivate an individual to achieve their potential. It states that our actions are motivated by psychological and physiological needs. When these needs are met, we are more likely to strive for our greatest potential. These are deficiency needs and growth needs. You must be well rested and well fed to be able to reach your full potential.

I think adopting the Behavioral Theory would best work for me. I’m already driven off of me knowing my own potential, but I think I work best knowing the consequences of my actions. I tend to get things done faster knowing that there is a reward or a consequence attached to the outcome.

I think one key thing to getting things done are breaking down the tasks at hand. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed when you have allot to get accomplished. Breaking big assignments down to little task can aid in the process. It helps simplify things in order for you to look at things in a more efficient and productive manner.

Having a positive perspective or outlook on any and every situation is very important! It allows you to see the good in things, even when it is difficult to see. This makes it a tad bit more manageable to get through the difficult times when you are taking a more positive approach. Having a positive attitude towards yourself, others and people during a tough time may be just the motivation you need to reach the goal at hand.
