Nigeria is bordered to the North by Niger Republic, to the east by Chad and Cameron,  to the south  by the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic ocean  and to the west by Benin Republic. The official language in Nigeria is English and the monetary unit is Naira.
Nigeria  is estimated to have over 250 ethnic groups but there are three major groups namely; Hausa- Fulani, Yoruba and Igbo.
Nigeria have a number of developed cities with breath- taking landscapes.  One of such cities is Lagos and this happens to be the city where the prestigious University of Lagos is situated. Lagos is a major financial centre in Africa, this mega city has the highest GDP (Gross Domestic Product). As at 2014, the Lagos Metropolitan Area is the largest in the world. It is well known for business,  commerce and trading.
Focusing on active citizenship, we have to say that democracy needs active, informed and responsible citizens; citizens who are willing  to take responsibility for themselves and their communities, and they will be able to contribute positively to the political process. The University of Lagos as an institution have been able to do the following in the area of active citizenship; 
1. Help the students develop  self confidence by transiting the needed skills and information, that will help them deal with  life challenges  and become global  active citizens.
2. Teach  the students to have a voice, that will help speak up and against oppressive systems  in schools, communities and the society at large.
3. Enable the  students to make positive contribution by developing the knowledge and experience required to know and claim their rights, as well as understand their responsibilities.
4. Prepares the students  for the challenges  and opportunities  of Adult working life.
5. Help produce motivated and responsible learners, who relate positively  with each other.
6. Help individuals to become active citizens,  who are willing to participate  in the life of the nation and the wider world and play a part in the democratic process.
In conclusion, we believe society is best when we are all involved, that is when we all bring our positive energy to drive change.
