Eile got whipped almost 30 times. He said that only the first one hurt tho, as he faded in and out of consciousness, he heard counting as he got whipped. I was amazed that a person would whip another for their own wrong actions being found out about. Idek met with a girl in a back room and Elie got whipped because he heard and looked in because he did not know what was happening. He was whipped so badly he could not stand or talk or think. Only thought was he did not want that to happen again.

The conditions were horrific, they ate soup with nothing but grass and rocks. They were beaten. Barely given any food. Not allowed to sleep at times. Had to stand for hours to a day. Had to do vigorous work for no gain of anything but the ability to live. People were shot just because an officer felt like it. People were burned alive, dug their own grave then shot in front of it so they would fall in. Babies were used as targets, they were thrown into pits of fire alive and for what reason, because they were born to Jewish family? It was one of the worst things the planet has ever seen and to the point people try to forget an entire war.

When they were fleeing the camps they went on a March. Later these marches were known as a death march because they walked until they died or they stopped and an officer shot them. After everyone being in extremely bad health they made them go a a march until they died. They had no mercy and would kill anyone you lagged behind. It was a very cruel ending to many people's lives.

Elie and his father had the chance to stay in the infirmary but they did not know what would happen to the patience. They thought they might just kill them or blow up the camp with them inside. Elie and his father choose to march but Elie's foot was still badly messed up and infected. The irony is that two days later the people in the infirmary were liberated and saved.

They had to run non-stop over 20 miles to the next camp. Running 20 miles is impressive with the right food and temperature and plenty of water. To be able to run over 20 miles with no food, water, or a single break in temperature well below freezing is inhuman. You have to have a will strong enough to break a diamond. To be able to survive in those circumstances is incredible and would surely change a person. You are so broken down to the point that snow feels warm. Your mind has to be twisted so far that you are borderline insane.

His father called over his friend who started as the strongest in the train car but did not make it off the train. 100 started in the train car and only twelve left the train including Elie and his father. The train drove a man to insanity so far to attack Elie for no reason and everyone was so weak it took two people to get his off a 16 year old boy who was no longer a boy when he stepped foot in Auschwitz-Burkeneau.

To think someone can be drove so insane to take the life of their own father. I could not fathom taking the life of a person, especially my own father. We will not get to spend as much time as we would like with our parents in the end and to think someone would kill their own father for the edge of a piece of crust of bread.

On January, 29 1945 Elie woke up to someone else in his dads cot. His dad had been taken away because he was dead. The last thing he said was his only son's name and Elie never responded. Elie did not cry or even pray for his father. He was relived, he felt free from his dad. His whole family went into the concentration camps and now he was the only one left. He did not cry but simply just kept going. I can't imagine loosing my entire family and not crying, not caring that I was completely alone in a world full of people.

In the end Elie is rescued and taken to a hospital. When he gets there he looks into the mirror for the first time since he was in the ghetto. He looked into the mirror, into his own eyes and said he will nerve forget the gaze that looked back at him. He said when he looked into the mirror he saw a corpse standing looking back at him. This is showing how he is not the same person as he was before he went into the concentration camps. He don't recognize himself. To him Elie Wiesel, the 15 year old boy died when he entered the first concentration camp. He will never be the same since. He was no longer a normal person. He was a survivor who might not have wished he survived.
