Well for myself, I think gifted and talented is for kids who are already advanced and are also ready for the big tests. Students who are not placed in GT classes still need more work on their subjects before they get to the important tests at the end of the year. Supposeably its for students who are on their grade level average,, and from my experience being put in GT classes, that's what I learned.

Some characteristics areas of giftedness are the following: the ability to take leadership, the motivation and engagement of learning, having outstanding academic skills, and it is individual students that learn at different rates and in different ways from other students. Differentiated programming is a targeting process that provides teaching and learning experiences which also provide the needs and requirements for learners to learn effectively by allowing the students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. The students are allowed to explore, experiment and engage activities of what they have learned. Differentiated programming, to my understanding is not an ordinary classroom in which the teacher has to classify his or her advance, intermediate and the students that need extra attention.

Every state has different levels of definition if the child is gifted. Some areas of giftedness would be leadership, their intellectual ability, their interest, academic achievement, and creativity. Differentiated programming allows students to learn in their own pace. It also let's the teacher provide equal learning, so all students to learn on the same pace. But it also allows students to learn and expand to different levels of achievement. Instead of the teacher separating the students she allows the gifted to expand and go beyond their expectation, but also allow the other students to learn on their own pace, instead of catching up to the others.
