In order for Prospero's plan to continue, he must forgive and be kind towards his peers, so that they will be sympathetic to him. Without forgiveness, the marriage of Ferdinand and Miranda could be questioned. As Prospero feels bad for the suffering he has given to Antonio and Sebastian, he decides to himself that "the rare action is virtue than in vengeance" (28-29). He understands that revenge is not the answer. Revenge is just a way of filling more people with hatred and suffering, and the humanity of this concludes to be horrendous. In addition, being upfront with revenge may also lose Miranda's chance being with Ferdinand, if found out that Miranda is the daughter of Prospero. Prospero is also filled with regret because of the magic he has learned to take advantage of others. Taking the island over from Caliban, Caliban became a servant and is harmed for any wrongdoing. Prospero realizes his fault, and it correlates to why Antonio was forgiven. As Antonio betrayed Prospero, the tricks Prospero has done almost damages their relationship entirely.
