The line chart shows about how experts forecasted the decline in the number of children per woman in Colombia from 1990 to 2070, regarding to the period before and after COVID-19.

Overall, at the first decade, families were larger than in the current decade, and the trend has been decreasing. After the COVI-19 period, the decline accelerated compared to what experts had previously predicted. However, professionals, considering the effects caused by the pandemic, now foresee a new projection.

First of all in 1990 each woman had around 3 children per household, specifically, 2.96 children according to statistics, demographers projected 80 years into the future, showing that the population would continue to decline with each passing decade. Experts forecasted by 2070, the average would be 1.43 children per woman, especially after the impact of the pandemic.

Secondly, After the year 2020, which broke the trend due to the COVID-19, people changed their behavior, accelerating the decline in birth rates. Before the pandemic, it was expected that by 2030 the average number of children per woman would be 1.70 close to two children per household. However, experts now predict it will be 1.59 for the same period, a drop of 0.11 compared to the initial forecast.

In conclusion, each decade, women is having fewer children. The fear caused by unusual events like a pandemic can create the same level of anxiety as a war. Showing

that we cannot predict everything with complete accuracy. These situations produce fear in us, because, they threaten our sense of safety and survival, and that, in turn, discourages procreation.
