A prisoner society was founded in the late eighteenth century, bringing persons of many languages together.

It's likely that some dialect levelling had already occurred in England or at sea. The early settlers had a big influence on the language evolution in the new area.

Borrowing from Aboriginal languages, maintaining or borrowing from English dialects, expanding the reference of existing resources, or conjoining existing parts in compounds or set phrases were all used to enhance the language's lexicon.

The social experience of Australians functioned as a guiding factor in determining the actual evolution of the language from these varied foundations.

Australian English is a new dialect that arose from interactions between individuals who spoke diverse, mutually understandable forms of English that varies less than 200 years old.

The children of the colonists who were born into the early colony in Sydney would have spoken the very early version of Australian English to fit the conversation by talking in languages that are understandable.

It is believed that these youngsters developed a distinct dialect that eventually become the national language.

Once they are exposed with dialects from different nations, they would create their own element of dialects and there is also some evidences that can prove it.

MIDDLE ENGLISH

William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy (modern-day France), attacked and conquered England in 1066. The new invaders (known as the Normans) brought a form of French with them, which became the language of the Royal Court, as well as the ruling and business classes.

For a moment there existed a form of linguistic class division, where the lower classes spoke English and the upper classes spoke French.

In the 14th century English became dominant in Britain again, although with several French words added. Middle English is the name given to this dialect.

It was the language of the great poet Chaucer (c1340-1400), although native English speakers would struggle to grasp it now.

Throughout the process of doing the e-Portfolio, we have been discussed about the countries to be chosen quite a numerous of times to actually decide which countries are the best to be written about and finally, we chose Australia and England as we believe that these two countries have different context of English and their accents are just too famous and special not to talk about. Syaza works on England while Fitriah works on Australia. At first, we were actually confused on which part of 'British English' to talk about and England is our final decision from the discussion.

In brief, England and Australia have their own uniqueness and their own variation of English. These two English native speaking country from the inner circle has their own vocabulary, stress and rhythm and their own pronunciation. Mia and Cady the representative of their own country, you can see and hear the differences although they are both from the inner circle county. This shows how wide and vary English language is. We can conclude that although these two are the native speaker, they still speak differently in the variation of phonemic, lexical and prosodic.

In terms of intonation, Mia stresses on the word 'sitting' while Cady stresses on the word 'are'. This is because in prosodic variation, different accent has different ways on how to stress on words in a sentence. As Mia stress on 'sitting', the way she pronounce it is also different as in /sɪdɪŋ/ instead of /sɪtɪŋ / as how Cady pronounces it.
