I aim to study terrorism and what impact this has on Northumbria Police. Terrorism is increasing and is a major threat in everyday life. Due to the increase of terrorism all emergency services need to be prepared in case an attack was to occur. Counter terrorism measures need to be in place to try and combat terrorists.

  • Building relationships with communities who may feel oppressed 
  • Control of immigration and asylum

This information i can then use to structure the question i will put in my questionnaire as this will be primary information that i will have found. This means I know this information is reliable. A major observation I have gathered has highlighted that not many of the younger community have much knowledge or understanding of counter terrorist measures. This I feel needs to be highlighted and observed. Terrorism is becoming more frequent, this is evident with the amount of terrorist attacks in the summer of 2017. One of these attacks occurred at an arena and was targeted at a young group. If we can raise more awareness and understanding, children may be more vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

Interviews;
Interviews need to be of a particular standard and the same for all. The questions I will ask will be specific and offer the interviewee a range of answers. I will be using both open and closed questions to analyse. I hope that by using open questions I will gain opinions and explanations from the interviewee. When asking these questions I will also be monitoring their body language and how this changes. The interview will be in person this is so I can get a thorough observation of the individual. 
The other method of research I will use is questionnaires. Before giving out the questionnaire I will ensure my respondents know the reasoning for the research and do not have to participate if they do not wish to. By conducting questionnaires i do not need to be present when they are being filled in. Due to this being a younger target audience i think this will be better as it wont be as intimidating for them and they are more likely to give honest answers.
