Marginalization refers to movement and change in the opposite direction to the mainstream of the development of people or things. Marginalization is a relatively abstract term, that is, it is non-central, non-mainstream, or rejected by the mainstream, mainstream society, mainstream people, mainstream ideology, mainstream culture, mainstream economy, etc., and is not tolerated. The simple explanation is that it is gradually removed from the center and the mainstream to the non-central and non-mainstream.

Identity politics refers to the political activities carried out by people in society due to the collective common interests of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation.

It is closely related to people's psychological activities. When people live in a certain society, they always have to determine their identity in a certain social connection, such as regarding themselves as Party members of a certain political party, members of a certain class, participants in a certain political process or pursuers of a certain political belief, etc., and consciously regulate their political behavior with the requirements of organization and process.

Marginalization refers to the movement and change in the opposite direction of the mainstream development of people or things. In the tide of economic globalization in the information age, the underdeveloped countries and regions are excluded from the economic globalization, showing the trend of economic "marginalization". On the contrary, the marginalization of backward areas has become an urgent contradiction to be solved in the current wave of globalization.

Medellin is Colombia's second largest city, and due to its location in a valley, its residents tend to be less educated and come from low-income backgrounds. Due to the high elevation of these communities, their infrastructure, services and transportation have historically been inadequate. There are almost no roads in the city's hilly areas and most of them are of low quality. Because of the steep slope of its location, road building is both dangerous and difficult. For decades, the high altitude region had few amenities such as hospitals, good schools and recreation centers located in the valley. This lack of access leads to a poor quality of life and isolation from the city's formal economy, limiting opportunities for low-income people and keeping them below the poverty line. This has led to an increase in local crime rates, further reinforcing their social exclusion.
