Plants are essential to sustaining life especially when we consider that they provide essentials such as oxygen and food needed for our survival. This photo illustrates the connection between us, the ground, the sun and water. As seen below, the sun is shining in the background while water is being dumped onto the plant from our hand. This represents to me the full circle of life and how essential plants our to our survival as a race.

I chose the video below for two reasons: I'm a musician (and thought the song was catchy) but also because I thought that it was a creative way to explain photosynthesis. Though the song is cheesy, it explains the process of photosynthesis pretty clearly. The information is elementary in presentation yet it explains the process in a way that is easy to remember. The other aspect of my choosing this video was that it was catchy and will help me remember the process as I found myself randomly humming along to the song.

The Savanna biome is in most danger of ecological change for several reasons. One of the biggest reasons is due to grazing by animals such as the Rhinoceros. Another big reason this biome is in danger is because of climate change specifically due to the green house effect. This climate change could cause an increase in woody plant growth that the biome's ecological structure could not handle.

Food availability was a positive impact of the Neolithic Revolution. Before humans would have to go out and search for food. The Neolithic Revolution made food more readily available and easier accessible as now people could farm the land they lived on for food instead of having to go out and search for food. It created a more reliable source of food.

GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) is perhaps the most significant invention from the third agricultural revolution. GMO's changed the way that food is farmed, produced and marketed across the country. GMO's allow for crops to last longer and to be insect/virus resistant. One of the negative impacts of GMO's is that they are generally deemed as being unhealthy. One such example of this is High Fructose Corn Syrup. It is a sweetener that is added to more than 80% of food that is sold on shelves and is used as the primary sweetener for things such as soda, snack foods (little debbie) and even condiments (ketchup).

An article I found that illustrates some of the aforementioned information is:

https://www.caltonnutrition.com/a-brief-history-of-agriculture-part-iii-gmos-the-revolving-door/

A chemical from a plant that I think is very influential is caffeine. Caffeine is found in over 60 different types of plants. One popular plant that contains caffeine is the Guarana plant. Guarana is popularly found in energy drinks and contains twice the amount of caffeine than a coffee bean. Some of the products that contain Guarana include: Monster Energy Drinks, Red Bull, Full Throttle and Rockstar. In a society that is always on the go, there is an increased demand for energy drinks.

In the future our current farming practices will not be sustainable mainly in part due to the population growth that will occur. One possible method that could be used as an alternative to current farming practices is hydroponic farming. This process would allow the food supply to be grown indoors but also would not require the use of soil and instead would rely on mineral nutrient solution. Hydroponics is currently an alternative farming method, however as science and technology continue to adapt, this could be a prevalent method of farming for the future.
