To be or not to be, the question weighs,
As we journey through life's winding maze,
But with love as our guide and hope as our light,
We can face any challenge with strength and might.

For love is not love which alters when it alteration finds,
It is a constant, an unchanging bind,
And though the course of true love never did run smooth,
It endures, like a rock that withstands the ocean's groove.

And though the world may be fraught with pain,
We shall not let despair our hearts detain,
For as long as we have breath and life,
We can strive for love and peace amidst the strife.

So let us hold fast to what we know is true,
And keep our hearts and minds open anew,
For even in the darkest of nights,
There shines a star that guides us to the light.

Dear Mr Gerard Manley Hopkins

I'm writing you this letter now because I had to do this for school, but it doesn't matter. I wanted to say that I find your poem very beautifully written and that there is a deep meaning behind it. The world has changed a lot since you last wrote a poem, everything is more modern now and there are more people on the planet. Many good things have been added, such as more medicines, yet there are still many bad things that rule this world.

As you said in your poem "It will flame out, like shining from shook foil; It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil crushed." Nothing has changed in this, the world is still full of the power of the lord. At the quote "Why do men then now not reck his rod?" I agree, because sometimes people forget that we have borrowed the earth from god and it is not ours at all. A quote that goes with it is "Generations have trod, have trod, have trod; And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil; And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod." This has not changed, because there are still companies and people who try to pollute the earth in order to become richer and more powerful at the expense of the earth. But there is still hope as you say in your poem, namely "And for all this, nature is never spent; There lives the dearest freshness deep down things; And though the last lights off the black West went Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs—" I agree, because there is still hope for our world and I'm sure we can solve this, if we all do our best. We can't do this alone, as you say here "Because the Holy Ghost over the bent World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings." We humans need help from the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit so that there is still hope for improvement.

I think your poem is very well written and I like the idea behind this poem. Because no matter how bad things may go with the earth, there is always hope for us and you convey that very nicely in this poem.

greeting,
Timo Kok
