James Madison wanted to declare war on the British. He was so frustrated with them for shooting down the American ships. So they went to war and the Americans were defeated in some of the battles but they won the whole thing. This is why I would call this a success.

When James Madison was president Louisiana was admitted to the Union as the 18th state. I would call this a success because the land got bigger and that would look good for Madison.

While James Madison was president he repealed the embargo act and put in a new act called the Non-Intercourse Act. This act was supposed to help reduce the trade between Great Britain and France. But that didn’t work so well. Merchants didn’t pay any attention to the act and traded with them anyway. So I would call this a failure.

Madison also became apart of the Democratic - Republican with Thomas Jefferson which helped him get elected for president in 1808. I would call this a success because he was the person that the people liked and they wanted him to be there president.

Madison vetoes two bills of Congress. The Congress doesn't like that so later they will pass the Religious Freedom Act. So this would be a failure for Madison. Because the bills were somehow passed.
