Utterson thought it was a bad business; he thought the hateful man was blackmailing the writer of the cheque.
As well, Enfield described the little man as in-human and disturbing.
Later, both men agreed not to speak of that matter anymore. But Utterson, decided to check Dr. Jekyll's Will, which was supposed to be handed over his friend Edward Hyde. He didn't like that paper and felt uncomfortable because he didn't know Hyde. He feared his friend Jekyll was under the control of a criminal.
He visited Lanyon, an old friend, to see if he had some answers, but he had no idea of that matter.

But one day, he started turning into him when he didn't want to and he couldn't control himself anymore.
He says that the murder of Sir Danvers happened in such an unthinking feeling rage. After realising what he had done, he ran to his Soho house and tried to burn the evidence. And that's the reason why he asked Lanyon to get that drawer.
He managed to turned into Jekyll again, but the next morning, he became Hyde, then took a double dosis, and turned into Jekyll, but he turned into Hyde again and so on.
He says he lives in fear of Hyde's return.
