         <description><![CDATA[<div>Reading and Maths Recovery are evidence-based programmes that can take children with difficulties.&nbsp; Need for research in Irish context esp in relation to progress of students after completing RR. Do they maintain gains?&nbsp; Is the follow-up strong enough.&nbsp;<br><br>Practical guidance - who provides the guidance? NCCA? PDST? NEPS? NCSE?&nbsp; Education Centres. Schools may be overwhelmed with all of the different groups. Some interventions are not widely known among class teachers (only among special ed teachers) which is problematic.&nbsp;<br><br>Since the new Strategy is likely to span a decade. it would be important resources etc. on a regular basis.&nbsp;<br><br>Collaboration / sharing to ensure continuity of approach. It was suggested that professional learning communities across local schools (perhaps coordinated by Education Centres) could be organised. It was also suggested that the DE issue a diary with regular updates and links to inform schools and teachers of new developments in literacy and numeracy. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With technology, it should now be possible to provide teachers with support and information on literacy and numeracy on an ongoing basis.&nbsp;<br>LNDL could be linked to Whole School Evaluation, in which case schools would allocate dedidicated time to it.&nbsp;<br>Inservice for the upcoming primary maths curriculum could also include numeracy (kill two birds etc.). There must be space in schools for new/revised initiatives. Timing is critical.&nbsp;<br><br>CPD must respect class contact time. When is the best time to do CPD? During the school day?&nbsp;<br><br>An important issue is how teachers view CPD, the level of commitment etc. Should it be part of a post-holder's responsibility. Could information giving elements of CPD be done outside of school time?&nbsp;<br>The idea that cpd on children with complex needs is optional is problematic. Mandatory CPD?&nbsp;<br>Need more hands-on approaches at whole school level (which is compatible with a whole-school response to issues).&nbsp;<br><br>Croke Park hours should facilite CPD on L and N.  Middle management numbers can also increase again. </div>]]></description>
