And at the beginning of the story when Peter and grandpa had the war grandpa will feel bad but he actually didn't. Over the story grandpa changed. I think grandpa has two sides of him, the fun and happy side, and the slightly strict, lonely, and grumpy side. His grumpy side/lonely side/slightly strict side is probably just because grandma died.  But the happy side when he came home from the airport was probably because he was excited to see Peter and Jenny.
