These companies rarely distribute external productions and only tend to distribute films made internally. This means that if a film like ours was to be distributed by Warner Brothers, they would own the rights to the film, the story and the characters, allowing them to manipulate it into different new forms such as books, sequels and even toys. It could be classed as a "British film." This allows the film producers access to additional funding from the British Film Institute. However, our film may not be classed as British if it was distributed by an American company as it may not pass the BFI "cultural test" which is a requirement to access the funding.

In order to maintain the British Status, a good idea for the distribution of our film would be an external distributor such as Studio Canal, a UK based film distribution company. This would be beneficial as we would keep our films British status but still not have to distribute the film ourselves, equally Studio Canal would be much cheaper for us the pay for than a bigger company such as TriStar, saving us money in our films budget.
