However, there is still oppression and inequality in the United States.

This changed the way I saw the text because I saw myself being represented. This wasn't just a story it was a real problem that was affecting people across the world, but also in my own country and society.

(500 tumans = $5) This shows the physical dehumanizing of women in Persepolis because their virginity can be bought. They see women the same way we might see a bag of chips. They should be covered and perfect on the outside so that only the "purchaser" can enjoy them. Their society as a whole, and some elements of western culture, see these women as a product.

The government is using people's lives as a way to show off their power. This further dehumanizes the citizens and separate the people in power from the citizens.

The young boys are taught that girls are different from them at a young age. This immediately discourages any sense of unity and makes the boys feel superior.
