The allied invasion of German occupied Northwest Europe. It all started 1944 June the 6. When the allied Forces stormed the Normandy landings and fought to regain the control of France. 

General Dwight D. Eisenhower was the leader of the allied forces during the 2. WW. After the world war, he became the 34. President of USA. in the period of 1953 to 1961. Dwight was also the man who ended the Korean war in 1953

The planning of Operation Overlord started in 1943. The allied forces technic was to trick their enemy into thinking an attack would happened in another place so they would be weaker in the Normandy landings, so the forces could enter the Frence land and start regaining control of Northwest-Europe. 

Due to bad weather and strong sea currents their Landing ships were pushed east and many soldiers had to wade up to 100m whit water as high to their heads. And as if that wasn’t bad enough they had bullets flying around their ears. Due to their placement was moved further east, bombers had to delay their attacks. A consequence of that was that many landmines and obstacles where left on the beach so it made attacking a lot harder.

Utah beach was the attack that was the biggest success due to pure luck. The strong winds had pushed the tide waters in earlier than they had expected. Due to the strong Currents their landing vehicles was pushed almost 2 Kilometres south. Their new placement proved to be better than their intended location so they redirected the rest of the infantry and armoured to the new location and pushed up shore from there.

The allied forces bombers had already damaged a lot of the mines and obstacles so it got a lot easier for the forces to take back their ground. Another good thing about their ne placement was that there were now only one big gun to worry about, because at their intended location they would be placed in-between of two big guns. 

Out of a 21 000 soldiers deployed at Utah beach there were only 197 casualties.
