The Southside of the neighborhood, near the Williamsburg Bridge, was called Los Sures. The school that serves as the canvas there is Middle School 50. In its early days, the school was a meeting place for activist Willis Hodges, an African American abolitionist (person working to abolish slavery and segregation).
