I have had some AMAZING conversations with my Seniors about articles we've read. They have ALL come prepared to the discussions and EACH of them has contributed something to the conversation. It has been soooooo fun to watch and be a part of! I love them!

Finished Pre-assessments

I finished giving all of my pre-assessments for the semester, and most of them (except for late students) are graded. It was a lot of grading for the beginning of the year, but it was worth it because I can see where my students are and what I need to focus on.

Grade Check is reported as grades and not just in class habits. Holding students accountable to earn a C- or higher has motivated a large portion to do better.

Juggling new apps and programs that were not ready before school started. Constantly changing my focus, although exciting, is still stressful and sometimes feels like no progress is made because each time I focus on a task the progress is so small.

Student Effort and My Time Management

Students are starting to put forth much more effort in all my classes. I am using rubrics on everything that is scored. So, discussions with students are focused on the elements of the rubric instead of "grades." As a result, they are completing assignments with much more thought and attention than before. AND I have been success, for the most part, at managing the time on task in my classes so that students are working efficiently during class, but we are completing several different activities each day and we are all productive.

Technology, although useful, is still causing me issues. OR rather I should say, that my lack or tech abilities is causing the frustration. I am getting better everyday, but my heck, I can really mess things up sometimes.

Trying to maintain all the requirements and new programs and learning curves while teaching several different classes during the same period. Lack of time to get everything done well.

I am technically challenged as well. Learning how to use Canvas is a challenge for me. I get frustrated with my ineptness. (Is that a word?)

Some of the kids that I work with have shown a lot of development in becoming more independent and taking more accountability for their grades and progress.

One little girl I work with has shown a lot of growth in physical strength during our workouts. :-)

Time, why do you punish me?

Time, needing time to get standards taught properly so that my students will not only know the content and material, but be able to use that information in the real world. Health is only a 1 semester class and I feel that I am constantly walking the line of not spending enough time on certain units, or spending too much time on certain units.

I feel like I have a pretty good start, but I still have a long way to go, especially after reading the Edutopia article for today. I want to create smaller, scaffolded formative assessments, so it's going to take time to get it all put together.
