First, we chose brown to represent her understanding of her complexion. Her dad explained it as "milk milk milk milk chocolate." We thought this was important because the story was based on her race. Second, we chose white to express the fact that she wasn't aware of terms such as negro, race and mulatto. Her understanding of herself was like a blank canvas until the Norton's made her feel out of place. Lastly, we chose the colour red to demonstrate Carole's anger and confusion about all the questions the Norton's were asking. Red is a strong vibrants colour which matches her emotions when she finally breaks and rages.

In this short story a girl is on a plane travelling alone for the first time. When she sits down the people next to her are asking rude questions and making rude comments about her race. We decided to chose red because it represents anger. In the story she is mad because the people are being extremely offensive so she gets upset. Red represents this because it is a very strong and powerful colour. Secondly we chose a blue colour to represent sadness. The girl is very upset and also begins to feel ashamed about who she is because of these people. She begins to feel really sad. Imagine if you where in her shoes and people where harassing you because of who you are. We think the colour blue represents this because the colour blue has a lot of emotions and is often used to represent sadness. Lastly we chose a burgundy/brown colour. We chose this colour to represent confusion and embarrassment. We think this colour represents those emotions because the colour is deep and dark and we think this is a very deep topic.
