The fact that she sees her husband can really hurt her mental state and she would have to change her entire way of thinking. Women were not given many rights in a relationship or in general during this time period. She would feel free because she would not feel as tied down as she would have when she was married. The reason why she feels this way is because shown throughout the story the husband had told her constantly what to do. Josephine felt free because she didn't have to listen to her husband any longer and she could do almost anything she had wanted to do.
