The seventies were a rocky time period in American history. The Vietnam War raged on, provoking anger and dread in the masses. Especially active in the anti-war movement were the so-called "hippies", waving peace signs and chanting provocative slogans.
In order to obtain peace, they consumed large amounts of illicit substances, mainly LSD also known as "acid". Most of their cultural identity revolved around sex, drugs and rock-'n'-roll. Nauseatingly colorful, baggy and scruffy clothes with patterns all over the place - that's a sign of a typical hippie. 
However the hippies weren't the only players on the American 70's cultural scene.
