The scene is shown from the perception of Usher's friend. The house forest and the water are described as gloomy. He continues on to describe the oppressive atmosphere around the house. He tells of the books available there and which ones he likes. The writer goes on to describe the books as mainly on religion magic or darker things.
The writer tells as he is told abruptly by Usher of his sister's death. He is asked to help his friend bury his sister. He continues to describe the dungeon and how they buried her. The writer tells of the grief of his friend afterwards. He also tells of his slow descent into madness and the occasional sense of vacancy around him. The writer tells of many sleepless nights and describes his room. This is when the section ends.

"...the mockery of a faint blush upon the blossom and the face, and that suspiciously lingering smile upon the lip which is so terrible in death." (330)

This passage mentions Madeline's condition, with the "faint blush" of life seemingly misplaced in an ironic fashion, however it is rightfully so as Madeline is still very so alive. Furthermore the "lingering smile" is a sign of human life and indicates that Madeline still has traces of emotion or independent action.

Another example is stored away in Usher's library; in his collection he owns the book "Vigiliae Mortuorum". The book means "vigil of the dead" The contents of the book tells the reader to keep watch over the dead in a religiously ceremonial way. This can be interpreted as a way to prevent the dead from coming back and resurrecting from the peace the spirit could not find. Usher and the narrator did not perform this ceremony and even took extra precautions to avoid it.

Poe utilizes these elements of foreshadowing to expand on the feeling of dread you get upon reading on his story. With all these subliminal hints he brings you closer to the doom he portends and the threshold is eventually filled. Just like in the Crucible, the negative thoughts and fears all boil up and build tension until the inevitable happens.

This connects to valuing the power of the imagination as the feeling of fear increases for usher

“Usher sister gets buried alive inside of a tomb and after usher buries her he hears weird noises and it’s his sister getting out of the tomb to kill usher” This connects to the supernatural events in the plot and is often bizarre because when he buried her she got out of the tomb and went straight for usher to kill him and and the mansion started to fall apart so his ushers friend had enough time to get out.

“It was especially upon retiring to bed late in the night of the seventh or eighth day after the placing of the lady Madeline within the dungeon that i experienced the full power of such feelings” connects to it was often mysterious because once he put his siter in the dungeon he got a bad feeling and it was his sister getting out of the the tomb.
