         <description><![CDATA[<div>May 7, 1915<br>The Lusitania&nbsp;carried 1,248 cases of 3-inch shells, 4,927 boxes of cartridges , and 2,000 more cases of small-arms ammunition. The reason why Germany sunk the ship was because of all the cargo that was on it. This upset the US because 128 Americans were killed. The US was upset and saddened but still wanted to remain neutral. </div>]]></description>

They were caught by surprise and U.S suffered 7,000 casualties. German suffered at least 17,500, including 10,000 captured.The victory of the battle allowed Americans to use up the Western front.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>May 18,1918<br>This battle&nbsp; was the first Division proved U.S military capabilities. Americans in Cantigny endured seven German counterattacks, maintaining control of the village despite high casualties, with 200 soldiers killed and another 200 incapacitated by German gas attacks.&nbsp;The total U.S. casualties at Cantigny had reached over 1,000. This battle provided a warning to the Germans that the Americans were not a force to be taken lightly, although they were new to the battlefield.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>August, 1917<br>Meat, Wheat, Sugar, and Fats were promoted to conserve them for military and civilians in Europe. Substitutions for these foods were promoted  to consume instead.  A number of organizations mobilized civilians to create victory gardens, as growing food would allow more commercially-grown produce to be available. The victory gardens were a success as people were motivated to help out during war times. </div>]]></description>

Many women took over jobs&nbsp;and gave many sacrifices to their daily life to contribute to the war. The efforts of women during war made people realize they are just as equal. Although the war put the suffrage movement on hold, it only made it stronger. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>June 28, 1919<br>The treaty of Versailles officially ended all global conflict. The treaty forced Germany to give up their colonies and pay war reparations. The US chose to reject the treaty and not be apart of it. It included one of Wilson´s point, the league of nations. The US believed if they agreed to the treaty negative effects would come from it. </div>]]></description>
