My main issue that i have selected in Consumerism. this is what i would like to read about. this topic is important to me because when i was younger, i had Consumerism practically running in my bloodstream. i would keep on asking my parents for the same type of thing over and over, which made my parents mad at me for some time. I don't think that there are any categories missing from our list. the link to my article is this:https://newsela.com/view/cm88y671l00083b6ktl7quugo/?levelId=cm88yeqq80d1h08org40qhd30. This is about a singular Cheeto, that's shaped like the famous Pokemon, "Charizard". and people are extremely addicted to Pokemon Cards in general, so this was gonna be worth a LOT, obviously! This was recently sold in March, for 88 thousand dollars! This article talks about the other things in the past that sold for a LOT of money.

My top issue that I really want to read about is how people always look so happy on social media and teens get anxious from it. Another topic that's interesting to me is if social media is a bummer or boost. These topics are important to me because they are real-life issues that I feel are important to talk about. I think another issue that is important to add is physical health, like how kids aren't getting enough physical health because of the screens. Newsela (social media) and Newsela (excessive social media)

I don't know much about mental health but I know people go through things like depression and I wanna understand the people around me better and what made them feel any type of way. I feel that if we want to understand people better and build relationships then these topics should be explored and discussed because a lot of people go through it these days and it impacts their life. One category that I think is missing would be Gender equality, I have seen gender equality happen almost my whole life so I have a personal connection to it because its unfair and a problem.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/06/opinion/suicide-young-people.html?searchResultPosition=35

https://newsela.com/view/ck9noon2h087n0iqj2mtirr8a/?levelId=ck7ecxtey16qy14p7j4pm06in

A topic I find really interesting is AI, and I find this important to me as I know that it is a worldwide impact, including me and my peers in school. It has a big impact on people's education nowadays, and I want to make sure that it doesn't impact me negatively. I know that AI is also on the internet, and I am also on the internet a lot, so I wanna make sure to be aware of AI on the internet. I think that the most important and debatable topics have already been added, so I have no more suggestions.

I'm interested in the racial bias one, most of all. My top topics are Racial Tension, Immigration, and Social Media.

The racial tension hits home for me- I've always felt something when writing or speaking about it, as when I was younger ( grades 2-4) I was an absolute target for racial discrimination, even between my teachers. It was during Covid, so yeah, being like 8 and hearing these awful things wasn't the greatest. Topics about racism really interested me since I wan't to know how to prevent it and why it even happens. The immigration one is because my entire family are made up of immigrants(besides my brother), and hearing about their stories and struggles would make me laugh. Especially my mothers, she came to America during her college years and had no idea how to cook with American foods. Her stories about immigration were always a fun pastime for me, and usually positive. I want to hear about other peoples stories-did their race affect the way they were treated as an immigrant? Social media was a top pick as well, because I'm so fond it- It's changed the way I act daily in ways maybe I don't even recognize. I feel like writing about ti can help me recognize some unhealthy habits I made ever since downloading social media.

I think considering mass extinction as a topic would be good, since everyone talks about it but don't really do anything.

NY Daily News (racial bias)

NY Daily News (PTSD)

NPR (disabilities and the plastic ban)

NY Times (new ways to test products)

My top issues I wanna read about for book club for this marking period is gun laws or mental health. These topics are important to me as health is what makes our body's function better and it could save our lives and how to be aware when taking care of your own mental health. some issues I would like to consider is child labor. Children shouldn't be able to work at such young ages. Do other people even consider the childrens mental health during child labor?

I want to read about bias and anxiety stress, because if people are not aware of these things and do not try to fix it it can cause a unhealthy environment where people continually show disrespect to others, because they have bias or have carried stress with them.

I think choosing the correct things to be healthy should be added to the list, because people are hurting their bodies by not choosing the right health for themselves. Sometimes peoples immune systems are effected when people don't eat healthy food. That might/could make them get sick more often.

None of these topics were on Newsela

My top topic that I want to learn more about is social media because MANY teenagers and mostly adults are very addicted to these apps and I wanna know the dark side of it. Many young adults see it as an very good time passer and it is true but do they know the dark side of it? Probably not. It's a dangorouse time consumer and not using it the right way and leads to bad decicons and dangour at an young age. Things that teens see that is bad can lead them to doing it because other people do it and they get influenced the wrong way. Comparing other people with ur self is a bad habit and social media has all the resources to ruin ur self.

Many people that actually use it see it as a good thing and they say that they learn many important things from it and it might be true. But some people don't use it for the right things.
