Shifting soil had destabilized the tower’s foundations.<br>Prior to restoration work performed between 1990 and 2001, the tower leaned at an angle of 5.5 degrees, but now it leans at about 3.99 degrees. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

The word sphinx is derived from the Greek sphingo meaning to strangle.</div><div> </div><div>Meaning:</div><div> </div><div>For the ancient Egyptians the image of a sphinx signified power and wisdom. They served, in the Egyptian imaginary, as protectors of the pyramids and temples.</div><div> </div><div>Sphinx of Giza:</div><div> </div><div>The best known of all history is the Sphinx of Giza, located on the plateau of Giza (northern Egypt). This sphinx, built in the third millennium BC, was built in limestone and has the following measures: 20 meters high, 6 meters wide and 57 meters long.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Big Ben is the bell that strikes the hours in the clock tower above the Houses of Parliament at Westminster in London. It weighs 13.5 tons and was named Big Ben in honour of Sir Benjamin Hall, who was Commissioner of Works at the time of the tower's completion in 1858. </div><div><br></div><div>Curiosity</div><div><br></div><div>When the Houses of Parliament are in session, the clock is illuminated at night by a light that goes off only when the House rises.</div><div><br></div><div>The bell was originally meant to be called Royal Victoria.</div><div><br></div><div>Big Ben weighs 13.7 tonnes, stands 7.2ft (2.2 metres) tall and has a diameter of 8.9ft (2.7 metres). The hammer weighs 200kg.</div><div><br></div><div>Big Ben chimed for the first time on July 11, 1859.</div><div><br></div><div>That bell cracked during a testing. A crack developed in 1859 but the problem was solved when the bell was turned a quarter clockwise and chimed with a lighter hammer.</div>]]></description>

         <title>The Forbidden City</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With approximately seventy-four hectares, was the residence of Chinese emperors from 1420 to 1912. Forbidden City won the position of the world's largest imperial palace and is, to this day, one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country.<br><br>The construction of the Forbidden City began in 1406, in fulfillment of an order of the emperor Yongle. In 491 years, twenty-four emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties lived in the palace. After the fall of the last Chinese emperor, Puyi, the place is no longer the seat of government of the country. Only in 1925 the Forbidden City opened the doors of its museum to the public, but these were closed again due to the invasion of the Japanese.</div>]]></description>
