Eduarda Vieira - Henry Condell

Although they are very similar, this does not mean that it was plagiarism, because at no time were they extremely identical.
He was a man of good character, who besides Romeo and Juliet had several other famous works such as "Hamlet" "The comedy of errors" and "Othello, the Moor of Venice".
If he had really plagiarized such a famous work like this, condemnation would have come a long time ago!

I’m John Heminges from the UK. My great friend of years William Shakespeare, is being accused of plagiarism in his play "Romeo and Juliet". Similarities were found between the work of Shakespeare and the work of Spanish writer Fernando de Rojas “La Celestina. Throughout our friendship, Shakespeare he gradually demonstrated how he was a man of good character, honest and most importantly, passionate about art. He never lacked inspiration and the will to renew his art more and more. None of the stories are even 50% identical, I don't understand the accusation. that is being done, there is no logic at all.

My name is Mary Drake and I worked for Mr. William Shakespeare and his family for 21 years. I am witnessing the accusation of plagiarism in the book "La Celestina", because during the period when I was employed by his family I witnessed many turbulent moments in his life. At the height of his career, Mr. Shakespeare felt very pressured and without creativity, this started to affect his behavior at home. He wandered during the night and left cigarette butts on the floor, he looked visibly dejected and stressed with so much demand. He changed overnight, when I saw him comment on his new production with his wife during dinner, I was perplexed, because to create something so complex from nothing he had to have a great epiphany. Until one day, cleaning the couple's bedroom, I realized that Mr. Shakespeare's bedside book was "La Celestina" and it was all underlined.

The poet William Shakespeare, author of several worldwide famous works like Hamlet and Macbeth, is being accused of plagiarizing the work “La Celestina”, by Fernando de Rojas, in one of his classics, Romeo and Juliet.

From three testimonies, enough arguments were gathered for the accused to be found guilty of the crime committed.

The first personality to witness, Rodrigo de Rojas, son of Fernando de Rojas, presents the several similarities between both works, from their textual structure, as well as in the story itself, such as the fact that both are stories of forbidden love that ends in a fatality, that the secondary characters have a certain hatred between them, the supernatural aspect that is present in both stories, and also the acts of revenge between the characters. These examples are basically a summary of both stories, which shows how similar they are, strengthening the idea that there was plagiarism in this situation. The second witness, Lúcia Davis, Shakespeare’s former writing teacher, says that the author, in his youth, came to plagiarize several texts in his school activities, being warned several times by the school. This account shows that William has a history of plagiarism, and that, for him, such action was not uncommon. Finally, we have the testimony of Mary, the current employee of the Shakespeare family. She reports that in the years of writing Romeo and Juliet, the author was extremely pressured to write new works, since he was at the top of his career, and was going through a moment of creative block. With that, Mary says that the author began the search for inspiration in the works of different writers until he came across La Celestina, which he showed a lot of interest in. The employee reported finding several manuscripts with excerpts from Fernando's story, as well as seeing Shakespeare reading it countless times a day. The pressure suffered by William and the copy of La Celestina found in his home, reinforced the case against him, indicating a possible reason, and that he knew of the existence of the work.

Putting together the arguments above, it is possible to create a solid case against William Shakespeare, claiming that he plagiarized the work of Fernando de Rojas.
