This slowed down all momentum of the trade sanctions. Hitler used this crisis to re-militarize the Rhineland. A- Absent Powers such as USA were not in the League, this resulted in Failure for the Manchurian and Abyssinian Crisis.

I- Ineffective sanctions, sanctions weren't used or worked properly

L- League was powerless with no troops, Manchuria and Abyssinia, League not able to send troops. 

U- Unfair treaty, League jobs were to enforce Treaties but some members thought was unfair. 

R- Reaching decisions took too long. the league was slow to act.

-This started in 1896 whe italy tried to invade Abyssinia but failed due to poorly equiped army. Mussolini wanted revenge from that embarassing defeat.
- Mussolini ended up invading Absyinia and britian and france turned a blind eye so that italy would sign the stresa pact.
-The league didn't do anything for ages until it asked italy to just keep part of Absyinia, Italy declined this offer.
In October 1935, Mussolini launched a full-scale invasion of Abyssinia. 
The Abyssinians were no match compared to Italy's tanks and other modern military. 
There was many seriousness of the issue. The Covenant made it clear that all countries should ban all imports from Italy. Sanctions would only work if they were quickly. The League banned arms sales, loans, imports and rubber tin, metals. However the League banned oil imports 2 months later. More important still, Suez Canal who owned by Britain and France, was not closed to Mussolini’s supply ships. The canal was the Italian’s main supply route to Abyssinia and closing it could have destroyed Abyssinian campaign. Britain and France were feared that closing the canal coult ended in war with Italy.

- In September 1932 the League finally made a decision one year after the first invasion
- Japan argued that China was in a state of anarchy, they needed to keep the peace
- Japan left the League in March 27th 1933, League was powerless, League didn't have sanctions
- economic depression threatened to bankrupt Japan, this is why Japan invaded
