         <description><![CDATA[<div>I love to spend my time listening music. And I love science too.&nbsp;<br><br>Once time I was reading a book (in the future you will know which book) and the autor talked about a song called C.T.A. - 102.&nbsp;<br><br>So, I looked for the song and started to listen to it. This song belongs to the american band The Byrds. This band was created in 1964 in Los Angeles.&nbsp;<br><br>Beside you can listen to this song on YouTube. I prefer to put the link instead of singing because I want you to stay here to read / listen to other information and not leave here hehe.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Well, the book that I was reading was&nbsp;</div><h1><em>The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark </em>of Carl Sagan.</h1><div><br>Sagan wrote about the song and what it represents. We can see that the song talk about extraterrestrial life and a signal received.&nbsp;<br><br>And it's now the history begins!</div>]]></description>

         <title>2.1 The signal</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>C.T.A. - 102 was the name of a signal received in the 60s. In the same epoch that C.T.A. – 102 was detected, the scientific community suspected that a class of final stars called neutron star could emitted regular pulses in the band of radio. For this we called today the name of pulsar. When the first data of C.T.A. – 102 was obtained for Gennady Sholomitskii in 1965, the Kardashev scale had just to be published (just 2 years latter, to now more about Kardashev scale <a href="https://youtu.be/PxwPfPWrOCA">click here</a>), where Kardashev said that civilizations of Type II or III could try communications with other civilizations with radio signals or that their activity in radio could be detected. When Sholomitskii read the data, the signals were variable and not regular how was expected. With this news much fuss was made: "OMG! This could be an extraterrestrial life trying to communicate with us!" To help the people who <strong>want to belive</strong>, Sholomitskii did not discard this hypothesis. And it was in this context that the song C.T.A. - 102 was written!</div>]]></description>

         <title>4. The Quasar C.T.A. - 102</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>So, C.T.A. – 102 is a quasar too. In fact, it was first a quasar and after a music. In brief, Quasar is a supermassive black hole that is found in a galactic nucleus. But it isn’t any supermassive black hole in a galactic nucleus, it is an extremely active and luminous galactic nucleus. To get a sense, when this astronomical objects started to be studied, the astronomers called quasar (quasi-stellar) because they appear to be a star, but have a spectrum a lot different of star’s spectrum. So, the scientists continued studying this objects to try know how far away from us they were. The first distance of a quasar was obtained in the 60’s and it was very very distant, 2,5 x 10<sup>9 </sup>light-years or 2.5 billions light-years. With this distance that the astronomers could estimated the quasar luminosity. And it was very unexpected, because when they do the math, concluded that the one single quasar had the luminosity of a thousand of galaxies!<br>Beside you can watch a video that talk more about Black Holes</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When we have a quasar in a galactic nucleus, we said that we have a AGN (active galaxy nuclei) because the supermassive black hole is accreting matter (dust, stars, planets, however that transcend the event horizon of the black hole). It's this matter accelerated by the black hole's gravity that causes the luminous effect in various spectrum bands. That is, we can receive radio signals of these regions too, not just in the optical. In Brazil, we have a very important woman researcher in this area (AGN’s galaxies) that was award with the prize For Women in Science of L’Oreal and UNESCO, she is Thaisa Storchi Bergmann.<br>Beside I put two videos: one about Dr. Bergmann talking about your award (in English) and other of her explaing quasars and black holes.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;Today we know that C.T.A. – 102 is 8 billions light-years far away from us and that recently it was passed for an intense activity varying a lot its luminosity.</div><div>A curiosity: C.T.A. – 102 is located in the same constellation, Pegasus, that was detected the first solar-type star with a planet, i.e, where the first exoplanet was detected. But this events are not correlated and, in fact, the first exoplanet and the quasar are very very far away each other, they just appear in the same plane to us.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;This VLBA image of the jet from quasar C.T.A. 102 in Pegasus shows the historically bright outburst. The ticks are one per milliarcsecond. The quasar is about 8 billion light-years away, so we're seeing about 5,000 light-years of jet length here.</div>]]></description>
