A photograph of food rationing to familiesDuring the Japanese occupation , each family had a ration card to collect the essential goods like sugar, salt, rice and flour that are needed for cooking. During the Japanese occupation, food was limited and many had to eat tapioca.

Also, during the 1950s, people would eat a staple diet of one meat and two vegetables for lunch and dinner(based on a sample menu from a 1950 cookery book. It also shows that people like to eat meats and vegetables at that period of time.

The person who first started schooling was TAN KHA KEE.He was from China. Being called a educational psychologist he was definitely someone well known of. Both boy and girl schools were introduced where students are taught several subjects. The school fees were rather cheap about 1dollars. However ,maybe i dollars was worth much more money compared to now.About 12 school subjects wetre taugh

This mahjong set is made out of bamboo, ivory, metal and wood. Gift of Mr Keng Ah Wong.

Mahjong, a game of strategy, calculation and luck, is played by four players with asset of 148 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols. Originating from China, the game was played almost exclusively by the Chinese until the 1920s, after which it was discovered and popularised by other nations.
