Took three years to complete. Was carved out of Carrara marble. It is 17 ft in height. The original location was outside of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence Italy and later moved to the current location inside the Galleria dell' Accademia in Florence Italy. The right hand is significantly larger than the left. The amount of detail carved is amazing , including the veins and hair. It is very life like and more of the humanism way of art.
Michelangelo Gallery. https://www.michelangelo-gallery.com/michelangelo-faq.aspx#FAQ1 Last Day Accessed: 29 September 2017.

Commissioned by Pope Clement VII. Clement died before Michelangelo got to Rome, he had to wait for the Popes successor Poep Paul III Franese to confirm the commission. Like most of his work it is done in a humanism way with characters of the painting looking more human like, nude and exposing themselves. There was much controversy surrounding this artwork because of the nudity. Michelangelo painted who criticized his work into the painting as mins the mythological king who is a judge in hell. This represents humanism with reference to ancient gods. After Michelangelo's death, loincloths were painted over the private parts of the nude.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, born on March 6, 1475 and died on February 18, 1564. His father was a civil servant and his mother died when he was only six. He got the attention of Lorenzo di’ Medici when he was fifteen and moved into the Medici family home where he studied the arts. When the Medici’s lost power in Florence in 1492, Michelangelo traveled all over Italy getting sculpting jobs. He did work in Rome, some off his most famous pieces, and once back in Florence he continued his trade as an artist. Michelangelo never married or had children. He died at the age of 88 alone. He is known for his paintings and sculptors but he was also an architect and a poet. What he loved to do most was sculpt. He is quoted saying “I am not a painter”.
