Attack on Pearl Harbor

It is unfortunate to inform this country of the tragedy that occurred on December 7th, 1941. Despite our efforts and security at the naval base, Pearl Harbor was wrongfully attacked. Although most ships had been destroyed, the people who lost their lives will not be for nothing. We have used our best efforts thus far to stay neutral in this war, yet this is something that must be acted upon.

This incident took over, leaving us defenseless and without arms. Before we continue doing what we can for our country, and our world. We must continue as a country. Move past this with nothing but the thought of justice for those who have suffered. To keep them in memory, so our loss, and their despair, will not be forgotten. So that this war would have been worth fighting for.

Continuing from now on, we will be able to fight, and for something. Up until now, we have stayed neutral because we had no reason to be involved. December 7th, 1941 will be a day of remembrance.

With those in mind, Japan has given us no other option but to fight back. Yesterday on December 8th, 1941, was signed a declaration of war. Besides our naval fleet, we now take our place with the Allies of, Great Britain, China, and The Soviet Union. Against this triumph with Germany, Italy, and Japan. This is not an incident, this is an act of war, this is a plea to join the war effort and fight to gain our freedom and our peace again.

Our slogan is targeted toward women to support the men at war. It is supposed to call to action and show women what they can do like showing production although they are expecting their husbands to come home. It pushes them to provide what they can instead of sitting in sorrow. Our slogan reads, "Don't waste time missing him...Fight from home." What appealed to the women in these times was the feeling of being empowered to be able to work and help the soldiers. We used facts about the trends at the time and the inspiration from other propaganda posters targeted toward women. We used the background of a woman in front of a flag to show that she is taking charge and doing her part in the war.

In shadows cast by fear's grim hand,

A tale of anguish swept the land.

Where whispers lost to winds of shame,

Recall the tragedy of a nation's blame.

In the land of cherry blossom's grace,

Lies a chapter veiled, a haunting trace.

Where homes turned to bars of steel,

(They were taken away from the comfort of their homes instead to a place where they were imprisoned)

And hearts once free, began to reel.

Beneath the rising sun's proud gaze,

Lies a darkness, a bitter maze,

Where innocence was stripped away,

(They were taken away from their regular safe routine of their normal lives to a concentration camp with mistreatment and violence)

In the cruel light of prejudice's sway.

Families torn from the embrace of home,

(Families were torn apart and placed in cramped places away from familiarity)

To barren lands where sorrows roam.

Their voices silenced, their dreams denied,

In the name of fear, humanity cried.

(People were stripped away of their personal lives and trapped in camps cramped together and they were innocent citizens)

Yet through the bars, resilience gleamed,

In the faces of those unjustly deemed.

Their spirits unbowed, their strength untamed,

In the face of injustice, they remained.

(The people were still hopeful and didn't stop trying to fight for themselves)

From the ashes of confinement's plight,

A testament to the power of light.

For even in the depths of despair,

Hope's flame flickers, resilient and rare.

(The people were still

May history's lesson forever stand,

A beacon against injustice's hand.

Lest we forget the price we paid,

In the shadows of Japanese internment's shade.

I believe that there could have been less drastic ways of an attack or in an area of people that couldn’t have been as affected. There could have been other ways of negotiation between the parties if they had both been willing to be open minded. The attacks could have been in a different area to attack militia rather than citizens of Japan that resulted in too many tragedies. There were two attacks rather than just one tragedy, without giving time for a response or time for grief the U.S. had attacked again within the same week. There were other measures that were suggested that could have had the same outcome but instead it was the immediate response to try to end the war without any consultation over the affects it.
