         <title>1936 Summer Olympics </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>     The Summer Olympic games of 1936 were held by chancellor Adolf Hitler. Usually referred to as the " Nazi games," the Olympics main use was for Nazi propaganda purposes. As well as Hitlers plans to promote the "Aryan Race." It was the first Olympics to be widely broadcasted on radio in over 28 languages, as well as the first Olympics and sporting event to be televised. Their was an attempted boycott and massive backlash because of the anti-Jewish propaganda surrounding the games. In the end, 49 countries attended and Nazi Germany appeared "tolerant and sane."  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jesse Owens, also known as “ The Buckeye Bullet was an African-American sprinter and long jumper for team USA. He is best remembered as the " hero" of the Berlin Games. Under Nazi ideology, he was thought of inferior. Owens won four gold medals, and broke 11 records, he also set a record that wasn’t broken until 25 years later. This irritated Hitler since Owens didn’t match his Aryan supremacy, Hitler reportedly stormed out of the stadium after he won the 100-meter dash. Hitler even refused to place the Olympic gold medal on Owens neck, as well as shake his hand.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Louis Zamperini </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>         Louis Zamperini was a 19 year old long distance runner for team USA. Although he placed 8th overall, he impressed spectator Adolf Hitler,  who congratulated and shook his hand. In 1940, He was unable to compete in the Olympics, due to the start of the war, he instead was enlisted into the Army Air Corps. During the war his plane crashed, he and his crew spent 47 days lost at sea before being captured by the Japanese. He was taken as a POW and was tortured for two years. </div>]]></description>

He was part of the 4x200m relay, although he received fourth, missing the bronze medal by six seconds.          <description><![CDATA[<div>As one would assume, the Jewish athletes in the Olympics were mistreated during the games. Although, for the most part, Jewish athletes were being excluded from the Games. In the end, the athletes that competed in 1936, or the Olympics before that, would later die in concentration camps. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>          When news spread of the Berlin Games, majority of. Majority of black journalists became against the boycott. Saying it was a chance for  black athletes to “ undermine Nazi racial views of ‘Aryan’ Supremacy and foster a new sense of Black pride at home.” In the end, a total of 18 African Americans participated for team USA.   </div>]]></description>
