My parents want me to have a good education and good grades so I can have more opportunities in the future. That was one of the main reasons they came here to the U.S. so I can grow up in a better environment and have a good job that pays well. They want me to have a life that they always dreamed of when they were my age. So hopefully later on I get into a good college because not only am I doing it for myself but I'm doing it for them.

Going out w/ friends/Boys

It's a known fact that most traditional Hispanic parents are very strict when it comes to going out to places with friends especially when it comes to boys. This is because where my parents are from it's very common for girls to get married at a young age and become pregnant as well. They don't understand that it's not like that here and that we are very much educated on the subject. Even though I'm a good kid and they see that, they still don't trust me and my desition making and I have never betrayed their trust. I still try very hard everyday to let them know I only surround myself with good people.

Mental Health

Mental Health in a Hispanic household is not much of a concern. Most Hispanic parents only think about the physical illness of things. If you tell them something is going wrong in your life they just tell you to calm down and brush it off. The times I've told my parents how I'm feeling or if I'm crying to them, they just tell me to control myself. Which to me isn't all that easy to do just like that. One time I was going through a really hard time during online school and my grades started dropping. That is the point when my sister asked me if I wanted to go to therapy(but in a rude way). It made me upset that was the point where she considered therapy just because grades were dropping.

Being the Youngest

Some people think that being the youngest in the family is a wonderful thing but in my case, it's a lot of pressure, anxiety, and frustration. I have 3 older siblings who are all successful in life. I have 1 older brother and 2 older sisters. My older brother didn't go to college but he has a successful career in selling life insurance. My first older sister went to OCC and became a preschool teacher. My other older sister went to UCSB and became a social worker for LA. As you can see that puts a lot of pressure on me to become successful and work hard for a good career after college. It's also like having extra parents because of the fact that they're older they can take away my phone when I have bad grades or when I don't listen. Then often times I feel like my voice isn't being heard. It's unfair when my parents always take their side of a situation and when I'm trying to explain my mistakes which are often misunderstood. When that happens it's considered talking back or disrespecting them. But overall I know they just want the best for me and I know they love me very much.
