Lily feels proud of the fact that, in August’s eyes, she has become a true beekeeper.  Just as being stung makes you a true beekeeper, Lily can’t be a true self-sufficient woman without going through some struggles along the way. Ray gives into allowing Lily to live in the Boatwright house once he sees how strong the women are together. Lily then sees how the Daughters stood up for her and that they are now motherly figures to her.
