It is crazy reading about a French mining engineer named Henri Fayol that laid the foundation for management theory. He was a strong team leader that introduced the "fourteen principles of management". He was the example of organization, communication, and leadership to help maximize efficiency. With every job that I have had. I've seen marvelous leadership all the way down to inferior leadership. After reading I am going to do my best in my management role try to exceed and lead with Fayol five core functions: planning, organizing, leading, coordinating, and controlling.

Some businesses actually look pass the culture and diversity and mainly focus their attention on profits. Not realizing the employees attitude. Asking and talking to employees is a great way to build culture and making sure that diversity never becomes a conflict. the late great Tony Hsieh said it best, "If you get culture right, most of the other stuff will just take care of itself."

It shows how managers must adapt their communication and management styles to different cultures, focusing on aspects like time perception, communication styles, and authority respect. Pete Drucker said it best, " Management is deeply embedded in culture. How Germany, UK, Japan, or in the United States is exactly the same. How they do it might be different." This relates directly to any company on cultural awareness and its impact on key management functions such as planning and leading. By understanding these cultural dimensions, managers can effectively navigate challenges and build strong global business relationships, driving success in a diverse marketplace.

Decision trees help organizations visualize potential outcomes by mapping decision nodes, uncertainty nodes, and paths, with numerical probabilities assigned to each outcome. With my decision making at work this is useful for understanding how businesses apply structured, rational decision-making when faced with uncertainty. I can now educate myself more on how data is used to predict outcomes and reduce risks in complex decisions.

This module showed the scenario of IBM Credit Corporation experiencing long delays in processing credit applications, taking weeks due to an inefficient structure where specialists handled each step. Two managers discovered the actual processing time was only 90 minutes, with delays caused by routing tasks through multiple specialists. Assigning generalists to manage credit requests from start to finish, IBM reduced turnaround time from weeks to just four hours. This scenario showed how poor teamwork and lack of coordination can hurt performance, even with hard-working employees. It also emphasizes the need for managers to regularly adjust their organizational structure for better results.

It’s important to understand, however, that being in a protected group does not shield an employee from being disciplined or terminated for performance issues. HR managers are essential in upholding anti discrimination laws; they develop comprehensive policies and swiftly address any violations. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) actively enforces these protections, ensuring that employers foster a fair workplace where all employees are treated equitably and without discrimination.

In business, especially for management and operations, clear communication is crucial. Storytelling helps share experiences and engage the audience, ensuring the message is understood.

Leadership and management, though often used interchangeably, have distinct differences. Managers are focused on organizing, coordinating, and ensuring efficiency in daily operations, typically aimed at achieving short-term goals, while leaders inspire and motivate others toward a long-term vision, challenge the status quo, and foster change. While managers tend to be task-oriented and results-driven, leaders prioritize building relationships and transforming organizations by focusing on people and their future direction. A manager can also serve as a leader; by guiding a team toward a specific goal with positivity, a manager inspires success within the company.

Effective control management is crucial for productivity. It significantly influences how well tasks are carried out and overall performance is achieved. Inputs are transformed into outputs. By focusing on maximizing this ratio through strategic process improvements, businesses can achieve remarkable results. At Bacardi, the Plant Director would implement lean practices that could significantly reduce waste and streamline production, enabling increased output without the need for extra resources. Boosting productivity not only allows companies to offer more goods and services but also enhances profits, strengthens competitiveness, and fosters sustainable growth. Control managers are essential in this endeavor, as they monitor processes, identify inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvements to ensure that productivity gains are not just achieved but sustained over time.
