How?
Seismic retrofit is the act of modifying existing structures to make them more resistant to seismic activity, ground motion, or soil failure due to earthquakes.

protecting the building's integrity and enhancing its seismic performance. Normally, excavations are made around the building and the building is separated from the foundations. Steel or reinforced concrete beams replace the connections to the foundations, while under these the isolating pad replace the material which has been removed. While the base isolation tends to restrict transmission of the ground motion to the building, it also keeps the building positioned properly over the foundation.
Supplementary dampers absorb the energy of motion and convert it to heat, thus "damping" resonant effects in structures that are rigidly attached to the ground.
A steel plate shear wall Consists of steel infill plates bounded by boundary elements.

PROJECT LOON

PROJECT LOON:
A project by Google which aims to provide internet access to rural and remote areas. Filled with Helium gas, the balloon is launched into the stratosphere at around 80000 feet that is twice the level at which planes fly. In order to gain access to the internet provided by the loon, it's users will have to attach a special internet antenna at the top of their building. The signals travel from the loon to the ISP (Internet service provider) and then onto the devices. The main aim for providing internet to areas where the population is low is to improve communication during natural disasters. Being placed in a particular level in the stratosphere is advantageous due to low wind speeds and minimal turbulence. Another advantage is that it prevents it's users from buying expensive cables as people in some regions won't be able to afford them. It's altitude can be adjusted by altering the volume and density of the gas in the balloon. Coming to technology, the loon provides internet at 4G speeds. The loon consists of a small box of 10 KG'S containing the circuit boards that control the system, radio antennas to communicate with the internet antennas on the ground. It is powered by an array of solar panels which produce around 100 watts of power in full sun which is sufficient enough to keep the unit running while simultaneously charging a battery for use at night. A parachute is also attached at the top of the loon which allows for a controlled landing when the loon is ready to be taken out of service after 100 days. In cases of an emergency or a system failure, the parachute deploys automatically to prevent a crash landing.

WeWork is an American company that provides shared workspaces for technology startup subculture communities, and services for entrepreneurs, freelancers, startups, small businesses and large enterprises.

Founded in 2010, it is headquartered in New York City. In May 2008, Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey established GreenDesk, an "eco-friendly coworking space" in Brooklyn. In 2010, Neumann and McKelvey sold the business and started WeWork with its first location in New York’s SoHo district. By 2014, WeWork was considered “the fastest-growing lessee of new office space in New York” and was on track to become “the fastest-growing lessee of new space in America” . “During the economic crises, there were these empty buildings and these people freelancing or starting companies,” Neumann told the New York Daily News. “I knew there was a way to match the two. What separates us, though, is community.”

WeWork purchases real estate space – sometimes just a floor or two in an office building – and transforms it into smaller offices and common areas.
