Doing it straight away could cause discomfort or distress and set a tone for the rest of the interview.

I wouldn't start with this question as it would throw the participant into giving an opinion or view straight away. This could cause the participant to become stressed and, in some extreme cases, offended which could jeopardise the interview.

I think that a descriptive question type would be the best way to start as it is an easy way to ease participants into the interview,. Additionally, it does not require participants to express their opinions towards their topic which would risk them feeling overwhelmed.

I would not start with this question type as starting an interview with controversial/sensitive topics could risk inaccurate data being collected throughout the interview due to a participants possible change in mindset. It would be more beneficial to use these question types towards the end of the interview.

i feel that descriptive questions would be the most ideal way of starting an interview, due to them being fairly easier to answer and less in depth. Descriptive questions also enable you to figure out certain key themes used in your interview and the order in relation to the respondent.

I would begin with a descriptive questions as it would allow a smooth transition into an interview and make the conversation more natural. It allows for the interviewee to be comfortable in the answer they give, especially if the question is something associated with themselves or their work for example. It is also a good indicator of how you might guide the questionnaire in order to get the most out of it.

I would not start with a structural question as I feel this style of question would be more effectively asked as a follow up from another question type. It aims to obtain a reflection and so asking an interviewee to reflect at the beginning of a questionnaire may not result in useful information.

I wouldn't start with a 'devil's advocate' type question, as a controversial question as such could influence the rest of the respondents answers to questions asked, due to them taking offence. Starting with these questions could also lead to an awkward atmosphere throughout the rest of the interview, creating a fatigued bias.
