Due to poverty people cannot afford to buy simple needs like healthcare. For example simple needs like healthcare costs an arm and a leg to these people. Since they face immense difficulties paying for annual clinic visits and medicine, they are more vulnerable to contracting diseases. Unfortunately, essentials like electricity and 🤬 and span water as hard as going from jurong east to tiong bahru. The little supply of the electricity and clean water means that heated hot showers and clean drinking water are a miracle💀

Social
like a ball rolling upwards on a downwards escalator, the poor struggle immensely getting through with their daily lives. Imagine not having an apple in your life, imagine being a person but without any money, imagine being an elevator but you can only go down, imagine a bottle of expired milk that's fermenting, with its gooey substance and pungent smells waffling through the air, that's what it feels like to be poor. Poor people in this modern society of Singapore encounter social problems frequently in their daily lives. In social places such as schools ,the unwealthy may suffer from unjust treatment through being neglected by their peers during group work or getting harassed publicly through the use of social media for their economic background. Their socioeconomic status leaves them full of holes, vulnerable for an attack by the wealthy, be it through mind games like with vicious comments and outcasting or physical abuse.

Educational
Problems that the poor face for education are not having enough money for recess and lunch. Their parents may have low paying jobs that is not enough to provide their children with enough money for their recesses as well as to pay the heavy loading household bills. We can sometimes see people going down to the canteen but they have insufficient money to pay for a meal. They may only eat once a few days to save money. Sometimes, you can see them staring at your food with thier eyes wide open sparkling and mouthwatering but unfortunately not able to afford to eat it. Another problem can be the poor do not have the appropriate technological devices for times like covid where online learning to necessary sometimes. It may be due to again the low wages of their parents. We can see them coming back to school during the online lesson days and using the school computers for their work.

The health issues faced by the impoverished in Singapore are numerous.

First of all, they do not have the funds to afford medical assistance, hence they avoid seeing the doctor unless in extreme circumstances. Such a lack of attention could lead to future health complications.

Secondly, because of their socioeconomic status, they might not consume healthy food, leading to developmental issues, such as slow growth and malnutrition. This impacts their ability to recover from illnesses, which leads to a recurring cycle of torture. Lastly, poor living conditions can lead to declining mental health, and results mental illnesses such as depression and crippling anxiety. When left unchecked, this could cause them to become deranged and in extreme cases, taking their own life. 💵🙏🤲

the poor in singapore often face all sorts of discrimination just for the fact that their social class may be lower than the rest . in today's society where social media is so prominent , it is extremely easy to ostracise and even bully someone through a simple post or single comment . these people are often left out especially in social settings such as schools where people are required to mingle and work together due to people not wanting to be associated with them . all of this , is due to a stigma of the poor being commonly linked to being dirty and unsanitary and even uneducated . people often assume the poor deserve to be poor since they 'didnt work hard' or are 'lazy' and are often looked down on despite actually working multiple jobs and hustling just to be able to afford daily needs such as food and clothes and yet , they get ostracised or discriminated against just because they may not be able to afford the latest electronic gadgets or designer goods.

Countless number of fingers pointing towards them as endless sounds of mockery revolves around their everyday. Society’s negative judgement towards the poor have always taken a toll on them. The words “useless” and “lazy” are often labels of the poor. Often ostracised, a stable economic income seems to be a steep never ending stairway. Being able to afford a trip to Universal studio singapore seems to be the norm in singapore, however not starving is already a fortune for the poor. After some, the thought “do i even belong here?” and “will i ever escape this circle of poverty?” The truth is: government subsidies will never be enough to block the negative judgements from society, it will never be enough to stop the poor from feeling demoralised.

Some of the personal problems that the poor face are related to their families. One of the factors that concerns family is heartless children abandoning their parents. Some people propose to their parents that they want to stay together with their parents and say that the house should be under the child's name. When the parents hear this, they would feel very happy and grateful that their child wants to continue living with them, and would transfer the ownership without any questions asked. However, once the process is completed, the child will then backstab them and kick the parents out of the house. This forces the parents to make their own living and have no shelter for themselves, which makes the parents sad about their child's unbelievable behavior and full of regret that they were too naive. They would never had expected their child to do this. On the other hand, this sickening scheme would guarantee a roof over the child's head and would assist them in relieving financial burdens as they would not need to accommodate for their parents' needs anymore.

(Social)
Another issue that the poor in Singapore face is extreme ostracism. Their interactions with the people around them are as limited as time, making it a constant uphill battle when stepping out of their comfort zone. Additionally, they have an elevated chance of being thrown into a situation where they find themselves bombarded with family disputes regarding financial dilemma. In particular, some couples tend to have differing opinions and stray apart from each other due to their struggles to make ends meet.

Economic

Late on a rainy night, running to not get caught. When he goes to open the mailbox, scary envelopes flow out like a tsunami. As he enters his house, he sees paint splashed on the wall. He let out a sigh. Without hesitation, he throws the envelopes on the table with the others. Stacks of paper fill the table, some even falling out. His financial crisis was growing out of hand. Looking at the envelopes the inevitable decision came to corner him. On one hand, he had to answer the landlord. On the other hand, he had to go see the doctor, whose instructions he could not even understand, due to his illiteracy. Applying for jobs is a struggle, no employers seemed to be appealed by him. Any government help schemes he wanted to apply rejected him as well.He makes his way to the toilet, coughing out his lungs along the way. His toilet is mouldy, more green than the white cracked tile. The flush was broken, any attempt to push down on it just made a metallic clang. As he was about to sit down on his chair in the living room, he heard loud vigorous banging on his door, which sounded like emptying a barrel of a shotgun. It was the landlord...

In their everyday lives, they work for long hours, only to get back a low pay despite their hard work. Due to such issues, many of them face difficulties such as being malnourished by not having enough nutrients, inability to pay debts on time, and not being able to buy what they need. Sometimes, things get worse and they are unable to admit their children to schools which affects their children's futures.

In today’s society, the stigma surrounding mental health makes it difficult for people with such conditions to seek help. In the case of the underprivileged, they would have even less opportunities to know and understand about such issues, or even seek help. Studies have shown that populations living in poor socio-economic circumstances are at risk of poor mental health, depression and other psychological disorders. A common cause of anxiety in the underprivileged could stem from a Low self esteem due the the impression and prejudice of the higher classes on poor people. From early childhood, many underprivileged students could have been facing such discrimination and thus, could have been a factor in developing anxiety as they progress.
