The Zulu rely heavily on ancestral spirits. Two of their most famous are amadlozi and abaphansi. Nkulunkulu is their all seeing god who goes above human affairs. The British were trying to take over the area that the Zulu lived in and this made them angry and caused a war to erupt between the two.
