In this course, the term "second language" can refer to "foreign language" and "additional language.” This course guides students to examine principles, processes, theories, and issues in first, second, or additional language development in the bilingual or multilingual context. In particular, it also provides students with understanding of the implications of second language development and multilingualism for additional language learning and teaching. Thus, in this course, students will learn different SLA theories from cognitive, psychological, linguistic, and socio-cultural perspectives. This course also guides students how SLA theories inform language learning and teaching.
