At the elementary school, I am on a fixed schedule all day, every day. Even though I try and compliment what the students are learning in their academic classrooms, there is not ever any time to do any collaboration any day. I do feel at the elementary level, more should be of love of reading and love of books rather than what standard I'm teaching. I do think APS 3 should be altered due to each school's schedule. How do we assess our program other than our "gut assessment?" I hope I do well with my assessments of my programs, but some things I simply do not do or do not have time to do b/c I am now in charge of all the school's lamination and duty every day for 180 days. I'm not complaining of these duties; I'm just saying I don't have time to do any more than I do simply b/c of time constraints.

There is lots of confusion about the role of librarians in schools. Districts have flexibility and the state standards for librarians have been disposed so that now districts and principals can do whatever they want without knowledge of the true job of librarians. If librarians are going to be formally evaluated, then there must be state standards that are truly met to evaluate librarians. There are

to many variables and to much leeway in implementation unless there are set standards including personnel numbers so everyone can be on a equitable ground.

Librarians are being used as catch all personnel, and because of this librarians are stretched too thin. Therefore, depending on the school and librarian -and all the extra he/she are being asked to do-, the librarian may not be able to meet all of the standards. Ex. On a full fixed schedule it is very difficult to collaborate. -Or- In a district with no budget, it is hard to have an up-to-date facility/collection

I do not see anything wrong with the way that we are currently evaluated. Sometimes we feel that things needs to be fixed when nothing is wrong with the current way we are being evaluated. Librarians are stretched thin. As far as collaboration, I think it is wonderful, but too often classroom teachers are not willing to change anything that they have been doing for many years. I attend the conferences and come back with some great ideas. Librarians need to be involved in whatever we do. I personally do not think the current tool needs to change.

I feel if the districts abide by what they are supposed too, then most of the current ADEPT Standards for us are okay. I would like to see them be more level specific - elementary, middle, and high school. We may all be librarians, but what each levels does is very different at times.
